SWEENY CLAIMS MAIDEN SUPER2 POLE AND BATHURST PODIUM
Friday, 9 October 2026 | Mount Panorama, Bathurst
Bailey Sweeny enjoyed an outstanding day at Mount Panorama, securing his first career Dunlop Super2 Series pole position before finishing second in the opening race of the Bathurst weekend.
Driving the #33 Blanchard Racing Team Ford Mustang, Sweeny demonstrated impressive speed throughout Friday morning’s qualifying sessions.
After qualifying third, Sweeny produced a superb lap of 2:05.5851 in the Top Five Shootout, edging Nash Morris by just 0.0111 seconds to secure a memorable maiden pole position at one of Australia's most demanding circuits.
Starting from the front row, Sweeny maintained his advantage through a dramatic opening lap, with an early incident bringing out the Safety Car.
However, teammate Lochie Dalton seized the opportunity at the restart, passing Sweeny into Hell Corner and establishing a lead he would maintain to the chequered flag.
Sweeny remained composed throughout the remaining laps, bringing his Mustang home in a strong second place to complete a Blanchard Racing Team one-two finish.
It was an impressive performance from Sweeny, combining outright qualifying speed with a valuable podium result.
With another qualifying session and race scheduled for Saturday, Sweeny will be looking to build on Friday’s success and challenge for victory at Mount Panorama.
