STORMING DRIVE - SWEENY GRABS 8 SPOTS IN RACE 2 - SITS 8TH IN TITLE AFTER SYDNEY
Blanchard Racing Team Cooldrive Auto Parts driver Bailey Sweeny produced a storming drive to claim 8th place from a field of 20 in Race 2 of Round 1 of the 2026 Dunlop Super2 Series at Sydney Motorsport Park.
Sweeny recovered impressively, making up eight positions during a torrid race after starting from 16th on the grid.
Earlier in the weekend he had also secured an 8th-place finish in Race 1 and at one stage posted as high as 4th in qualifying.
Sweeny briefly propelled the team to what looked like a second BRT one-two for the weekend when he jumped to second as the timing screens lit up with just under eight minutes remaining.
The Batemans Bay local had set a competitive qualifying lap of 1:01.234, just 0.16 of a second shy of pole sitter Zak Best, a narrow margin that left him 7th on the grid for the race start.
After qualifying on the shorter Druitt Circuit, organisers elected to run Races 1 and 2 on the same variant, marking the first time Super2 has raced on the Druitt layout.
The result takes Sweeny to 8th overall in the championship with 180 points as the series leaves Sydney.
The 2026 Dunlop Super2 Series resumes for Round 2 on 19–21 June at Hidden Valley in Darwin.
