BREAKOUT WEEKEND FOR SWEENY AT SYMMONS SEES HIM ROCKET UP RANKINGS

Blanchard Race Team driver Bailey Sweeny has come through with a strong weekend at Symmons Plains in Tasmania, during Round 2 of the 2025 Dunlop Super 2 Series.

The Round saw a series of significant firsts for Sweeny in this competitive category, initially going fastest of the entire field overall on Day 1, during the two practice sessions held at the tight and challenging Tasmania circuit.

Sporting new backing from Super Spill & Safety Solutions, rookie Sweeny was at the top of the timesheets for the majority of the sessions, at one stage putting more than half a second on the field.

He would follow that with a Race 1 fight back position of 13th after an incident at one stage saw him drop down the field to second last, in the 23 car field.

On Sunday, Sweeny once again showcased his exceptional skill, hauling himself into the historic first-ever Dunlop Series ‘Top 5 Shootout’ during qualifying.

In an impressive display of talent and determination, he ultimately finished in a strong third place, just narrowly missing out on pole position by a mere 0.1346 of a second.

Sweeny slid his way through Turns 1 and 2, but still set the fastest first sector before skating the rear into the Turn 4 hairpin.

However, it was a big improvement from the former Erebus junior, who recorded a time of 53.3488s.

Race 2 saw a further top 9 finish, enabling the young New South Welshman to walk away from the round with a haul of 150 points in the bag.

The impressive and thrilling weekend propelled him up an incredible 7 spots on the championship leaderboard compared to his position after the last round.

As a result of his outstanding performance, he now sits in 18th place overall among the 25 starters, accumulating a total of 213 points.

Round 3 of the 2025 Dunlop Super2 Series will be held at the NTI Townsville 500 from July 11-13.
